Colorado has always felt like two completely different vacations.
One wrapped in fresh snow.
The other covered in wildflowers.
I can't decide which version I love more.
Winter belongs to Steamboat Springs.
There's something about waking up to a blanket of fresh snow that makes the entire world feel quieter.
The mountains seem to absorb every sound.
Coffee somehow tastes better.
The walk to the ski lift feels like part of the adventure.
Even if you spend more time warming up in the lodge than carving perfect turns, it doesn't matter.
Steamboat has a way of making everyone slow down.
You ski.
You laugh when you fall.
You watch the snow drift outside while another fire crackles inside.
It's simple.
And somehow that's enough.
Then, just when you think Colorado couldn't possibly be more beautiful...
Summer arrives.
Vail becomes an entirely different place.
The ski runs transform into hiking trails.
Wildflowers blanket the mountainsides.
The air is cool enough for a sweater in the morning and warm enough to enjoy lunch outside by afternoon.
Vail Village feels like somewhere you accidentally wandered into while exploring Europe.
Stone walkways.
Flower boxes overflowing with color.
Live music echoing through the village.
Families lingering over ice cream.
Nobody seems to be in a hurry.
One afternoon becomes an evening without even realizing it.
You stop for coffee.
Browse a bookstore.
Listen to a musician playing in the square.
Walk beside Gore Creek.
Order dessert even though you weren't planning to.
The mountains have a way of convincing you that the best moments don't need an itinerary.
Maybe that's what keeps drawing me back.
Colorado isn't just beautiful.
It gives you permission to breathe a little deeper.
To stay a little longer.
To remember that every season has something worth celebrating.
Some destinations ask you to choose your favorite time of year.
