Sunday Morning, Before the World Wakes Up

Home isn't just a place. It's the quiet feeling of Sunday mornings, open windows, coffee on the table, and finding joy in the ordinary moments we too often rush past.

Friday Postcard 8 • Home

Sometimes my favorite place to travel...

is nowhere at all.

Just home.

Before the world wakes up.

Before the emails arrive.

Before the laundry reminds me it's waiting.

Before the calendar starts asking for my attention.

Sunday mornings have their own rhythm.

The coffee tastes a little better.

The house is a little quieter.

The sunlight seems softer somehow.

There isn't anywhere I need to be.

And for a little while...

that feels like enough.

I usually open the windows first.

Fresh air has a way of making everything feel possible.

The birds are already awake.

The neighborhood is still.

Even the trees seem to move a little slower.

I'll pour another cup of coffee.

Read a few pages of a good book.

Or sometimes...

  • I'll simply sit.

  • No phone.

  • No agenda.

Just a quiet reminder that not every moment needs to be productive.

I've started believing those ordinary mornings are the ones we'll remember.

Not because anything extraordinary happened.

Because we were present enough to notice them.

Life gets loud.

There will always be another meeting.

Another errand.

Another notification asking for our attention.

But Sunday morning...

before the world wakes up...

still belongs to us.

Maybe that's why I love it so much.

This Week's Read

The Reading List - Sara Nisha Adams

A heartwarming novel about how one unexpected reading list connects strangers and reminds them that stories have a way of finding us exactly when we need them. It's uplifting, charming, and perfect for a slow Sunday morning.

On the Counter

  • A small bouquet of white daisies.

  • Fresh peaches waiting to be sliced.

  • A loaf of sourdough from the local bakery.

What We Ate

Fresh peach toast with whipped ricotta and local honey.

Coffee that somehow tasted better because there was nowhere else to be.

If You Need a Slow Morning

• Leave your phone inside for the first half hour.

• Open a window and let the morning in.

• Visit your local farmers market.

• Read a chapter instead of scrolling.

• Let yourself move through the morning without watching the clock.

See you next Friday.

The Book I Didn’t Know I Needed

Sometimes the best stories aren't the ones we plan to read. Inspired by a quiet afternoon and Remarkably Bright Creatures, this postcard is about unexpected discoveries, slowing down, and the places that stay with us long after we've left.

Friday Postcard 7 • A Quirky Octopus

I have a habit of buying books faster than I can finish them.

There's always a stack on my nightstand—some recommended by friends, some picked up because I loved the cover, and a few that somehow found their way into my shopping cart after reading just one review. Every now and then, one quietly rises to the top at exactly the right time.

It's funny how that happens.

Sometimes we reach for a book because we think we're looking for entertainment, only to realize we were looking for perspective all along.

There have been seasons in my life when I've needed adventure. Other times I've needed encouragement. Lately, I've found myself drawn to books that slow me down and remind me to notice the little things—the conversations around the dinner table, a walk through a new town, or the comfort of coming home after being away.

The best books have a way of staying with you long after you've turned the final page. They change how you notice the world.

Maybe that's why I love reading while traveling. A good story somehow becomes part of the place where you read it. Years later, I won't just remember the ending—I remember the porch, the coffee shop, or the rainy afternoon where I was when I finished it.

If you're looking for your next great read, I'd encourage you to choose one that invites you to slow down instead of speeding through the pages.

Sometimes the right book finds you exactly when you need it.
