Where the Ocean Meets the Pines
Friday Postcard 6 • Camden, Maine
October may always belong to Santa Fe.
But summer belongs to Maine.
Not because of the lobster.
Or the sailboats.
Or the rocky coastline everyone photographs.
It's the pace.
Morning begins with coffee overlooking the harbor.
The tide quietly changes while nobody is paying attention.
You spend hours walking without realizing you've covered miles.
In Camden, everything feels connected.
The mountains somehow meet the sea.
Pine trees lean toward the water.
The harbor wakes up slowly.
Even the shops seem to encourage lingering instead of browsing.
One afternoon can disappear wandering bookstores.
Another disappears watching sailboats return before sunset.
Nobody seems interested in rushing to the next thing.
That might be my favorite part.
Vacation doesn't have to be packed with plans.
Sometimes it's enough to sit on a bench.
Watch the boats.
Order another coffee.
And remember that not every beautiful day needs an itinerary.
Maine has a quiet confidence.
It doesn't try to impress you.
It simply lets you notice.
